Shop small, think big
A smile can change somebody’s day. A small action can have a huge knock-on effect. In order for our economy to work properly – both locally and on a national scale – we all have to work together right now.
If you made a chain of dominoes and missed one out it wouldn’t work. If you laid a chain of matches alongside one another and lit one end, they wouldn’t all light if one was missing. If Great Britain were a pair of trousers, it would need a belt to hold it up – the belt is the economy. Without the belt… well, you get the picture.
The UK needs the economy, the economy needs you. All of you. We all need to play our part in keeping the economy going. Now more than ever.
This doesn’t just mean the big guys, this means small businesses, one man bands, local enterprises. Together we can make sure that they don’t fall by the wayside. It has never been more important to shop local. Not just for food – but for everything.
Amazon, for example, can deliver whatever you want and is brilliantly efficient at delivering it. But is it huge, global businesses that need your support right now?
If you didn’t shop local before, now’s your chance. If you did, I implore you to carry on. But if you don’t use them, you’ll lose them. And just like a chain of dominoes with one missing, or a line of matches with a gap in the middle, if you lose them, the businesses they used to keep going lose out too and we lose them too …and it snowballs on and on. The supply chain needs you to shop small, to bolster one another, to keep the chain complete.
If any of you are small business owners yourself I won’t need to explain to you the hours, the money, the heart and soul that goes in to making a start-up a success. Don’t let all that effort go to waste.
Because those businesses could go on to be something really special. Something that really makes a difference in people’s lives. You can help to make that happen with the very smallest of actions – by supporting them when they need you the most. That time is right now. Shop local, think big.
Stay Safe.
